Baugruppen
Mixed-use in Berlin
Architectural Design Studio
Urban blocks in Berlin, Germany often have an interior courtyard in the middle. These interior courtyards are introverted and isolated from the streets. However, my design proposal intends to link the interior spaces of the urban block to the street by making a series of extroverted terraces that connect the building’s overall form to the city. The ground level is designed as a series of plazas and shared public spaces. Thus, areas for gathering exist throughout the building’s floor plans as interior rooms linked to public exterior spaces. The layout of each floor is different to maintain a diversity of experiences as one moves vertically through the building.
